Book One
We are living in an age where conspiracy theories run rampant and mob mentality rules. In my adult supernatural horror novel, Stephen King's "The Stand" meets DC Comics "Constantine". The first book in my After Life Series, Raptured, presents a prism of several personal tragedies describing the collapse of society, explosions of violence, and the terror of self-righteousness in 80,844 words.
When the pope officially announces that God has warned him of the coming Apocalypse, it could mean the end of all human life. The church and the government work together and decide to prioritize the nation's children to live in their secret luxury fallout shelters, known as Raptures. Society becomes ravenous and irrational at the decision, and as everyone faces the prospect of annihilation, vigilantes soon begin to target children.
Eva, a widowed mother of two, is not sure this is a task she can take on. Her tenacity to reach the rapture with her children is matched only by her fear. Alone and somewhat helpless, she has to find the courage to face the ferocious crowds and unknown challenges.
Sam is a mysterious stranger that arrives, claiming to have the answers that they all seek for their survival and the survival of their kids. His knowledge and compassion make him the perfect leader to save all their souls and guide them into the future. But some things are too good to be true.
Before Eva can deliver her children to the rapture, she must face Sam and summon all her courage to deliver her children to their salvation. Helped by her new companion, Gideon, a priest with dwindling faith, they will brave a journey north. If they fail, Eva’s kids, and all the others, could become human sacrifices for the deranged mobs. Through swirling biblical chaos, the two will fight to deliver all the children they can to their salvation. They must get them there before the adults tear them to pieces, or worse.
